1 Player Each Team in the NFC North Could Trade

As each day passes before the start of the regular season, the battle for each team’s 53-man roster is heating up. Players are giving their best shot, especially those who are on the fringe.

While the starters are using the preseason to just get back the feel of football after a well-deserved offseason, multiple players from various positions are working harder than before to make the final cut.

The NFC North is an interesting division this year since the Chicago Bears have stacked up their offense while already having a decent defense. Jordan Love-led Green bay Packers should be back to improve on last year’s postseason run while the division is still the Detroit Lions’ to lose.

In the midst of all this, we take a look at one player that each team from the NFC North could trade before they get ready for the battle ahead.

    Chicago Bears: Khalil Herbert

The one area of the football field where the Bears have done well is in the backfield with their running backs. If the Bears are looking for some draft capital, they may consider trading Khalil Herbert, who is now in his final year of his rookie contract.

Herbert has played well in Chicago, but after having added D’Andre Swift in the offseason, letting go of Herbert may be a better option than letting him leave for free next year.

    Detroit Lions: John Cominsky

The Detroit Lions have one of the better pairings at the edge position among the NFL teams. Aidan Hutchinson is a force to be reckoned with, and with a little more production on his part, he could be in the running for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

On the other side, the Lions have added six-year veteran Marcus Davenport to the squad in the offseason. The position has quite a bit of depth, so Detroit can afford to trade John Cominsky, whom they had acquired in 2022. Cominsky currently finds himself much further down the pecking order, which is justified with the drop in his level of production over the past two years.

    Green Bay Packers: Preston Smith

If Green Bay were to deal off a player, then the best possible one would be edge rusher Preston Smith. Of course, trading Smith is not something all fans would be in agreement on, and for good reason, too. Smith has been a key edge rusher for the Packers over the years, but he isn’t irreplaceable.

Speaking of which, Green Bay actually went out and got his replacement in last year’s draft in the form of Lukas Van Ness. Although the 2023 first-round pick didn’t exactly hit the ground running in his rookie year, his teammates are expecting a big leap from him this year.

Smith will be turning 32 this November, and with Van Ness ready to step up, maybe it is time for Green Bay to trade Smith and get some draft capital.

    Minnesota Vikings: Lewis Cine

Safety Lewis Cine, who was taken by the Vikings in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, would be a good candidate for Minnesota to trade. Despite Cine being a first-round selection, he has had issues with injuries, leading to plenty of games being missed.

Having received little to no production from Cine, perhaps it would be in the Vikings’ best interest to get some trade value from him instead of keeping him on the roster.
