NFL Analyst Reveals Wild Take On Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had a big problem with turnovers last season, throwing 15 interceptions and losing five fumbles.

Hurts’ issues with ball security played a rather significant role in the Eagles’ collapse down the stretch in 2023, although the team’s problems ran much deeper than that.

However, Hurts appears to be taking extra precautions heading into 2024, as the signal-caller has apparently not thrown a single pick through 20 training camp practices.

That sounds like a good thing, right?

Not to Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright.

While discussing Hurts’ sparkling interception mark, Wright felt that zero interceptions was actually “too few” for the 26-year-old.

Wright actually makes a salient point.

What Wright is essentially saying is that Hurts is being too cautious and isn’t experimenting enough in practice. Former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings agreed, saying that Hurts’ complete lack of picks demonstrates that he hasn’t been taking chances.

How much pressure is Eagles QB Jalen Hurts under in 2024?

It’s not just that Hurts didn’t play too well last season. It’s also that he apparently has a beef—or at least a shaky relationship—with head coach Nick Sirianni that dates back to last year.

Remember: when the Eagles were busy losing five of their last six regular-season games in 2023, there were reports that players within Philadelphia’s locker room were none too pleased with Hurts’ demeanor.

Also, while numerous Eagles players leapt to Sirianni’s defense when there was talk of him being fired after last season, Hurts remained rather diplomatic on the issue.

So, there really is a lot riding on the 2024 campaign for Hurts.

The Eagles have already signed him to a massive contract extension, so Hurts is fine from a financial standpoint. But let’s be honest: in three full seasons as Philly’s starting quarterback, the University of Alabama product has really only had one very good year.

That came in 2022, when Hurts finished second in MVP voting and led the Eagles all the way to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hurts was only decent in 2021, and he took a major step back last season.

There are definitely reasons to be concerned about Jalen Hurts heading into 2024, so Wright is not completely off in his assessment, regardless of how wild it sounds.
