3 Bold Predictions For Texans WR Stefon Diggs In 2024

    By Ian Van Roy,

Stefon Diggs is heading into his third act with the Houston Texans. While most receivers on their third team are usually in a decline, Diggs arguably could hit new heights in certain ways.

However, will the former Vikings and Bills workhorse find equal success in the AFC South?

Here’s a look at three predictions for the wide receiver this year.

Stefon Diggs’ total production continues to decline

Above all, the question about Diggs is whether he is on his final decline already or whether he has plenty of gas in the tank. From a pure numbers standpoint, Diggs continues his decline. From 2022 to 2023, he saw a roughly 250-yard and three-touchdown decline. This year, he will fall below 1000 yards for the first time since 201. Of course, this won’t say much on a team loaded with Tank Dell and Nico Collins.

    Stefon Diggs makes playoff-winning catch

Diggs won’t set the stat sheet aflame, but he will prove instrumental in getting the Texans into the next round of the playoffs. Of course, this isn’t a prediction of where and when it will happen at a game-by-game level. However, it won’t be a Super Bowl-winning grab. That said, sports talk shows will point to the catch for several months as a reason to pay the wide receiver as he heads into a tight negotiation window.

Diggs is playing on an all-in, one-year prove-it deal that could push things to the last moment if the Texans play it that way. As such, the catch will essentially get him an extension into the future with the team despite a slip in overall production.

Stefon Diggs slips out of No. 1 receiver role

Diggs won’t light up the league with his production. He also won’t take control of the wide receiver room for the entire year, either. Whether in statistics or in official depth chart stacking, Diggs will not finish the year as the team’s top receiver. Either Dell of Collins will elevate themselves into that role.

Of course, the change won’t be announced to the entire league, but it will quietly take place during the middle of the season. If anything, it will generate only a passing acknowledgment from the NFL zeitgeist as attention focuses on the bigger picture of playoff standings.
