New York Jets Urged to Add This Intriguing Defender

The New York Jets have finished up their second week of the preseason and are getting closer to the start of the 2024 season. The Jets didn’t play most of their starters against the Carolina Panthers, as they are looking to play it safe with injuries.

While protecting the team from injuries is important, New York could also be very rusty heading into the season. As we have seen in recent years, the first few weeks of the NFL season generally aren’t the cleanest of games with the lack of reps for starters in game action.

The Jets will have one more preseason game against the New York Giants before the start of the season. Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about one player that the Jets should add before the start of the season.

Here’s what they had to say about making a trade for Minnesota Vikings safety, Lewis Cine.

“Last week, we highlighted Justin Simmons as a potential veteran addition to the safety room. That opportunity is gone with the Falcons signing a Pro Bowler ahead of the weekend. The need for another safety who could contribute is still there for Gang Green, though.

Lewis Cine was highlighted in our recent list of the biggest names who could be cut. The former first-round pick has struggled to make an impact in Minnesota with multiple injuries. The Jets could make a small bet on his draft stock and health, leading to a breakout season.”

Safety is the biggest need for a dominant Jets defense

The safety position continues to be one of concern for a very good defense overall going into the season. Currently, Tony Adams and Chuck Clark are slated to be the starting safeties for the Jets, with Ashtyn Davis likely seeing a fair number of snaps, as well.

While Cine might not be an impact player, the Jets could use him to add depth to the position. Injuries have certainly slowed down the start of Cine’s career in Minnesota, but he was a former first round pick, so the potential is there.

Since the Jets are going all-in with Aaron Rodgers, they need to make sure that they leave no stone unturned before the start of the season. New York hasn’t made the playoffs in a long time, and that streak continuing this season would be a colossal failure for the organization.

If Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas deem that the safety position is an issue, they must address it.
