4 Questions the San Francisco 49ers Must Answer For 2024

As the excitement continues to build for the upcoming season of the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers are once again heavy favorites to make it deep into the postseason this year. Consistency has been the theme of this 49ers team for the past few years, barring the exception of their 2020 campaign when things just fell off.

Nevertheless, as we approach the start of the regular season, here are four questions the 49ers must answer in 2024.

Will the 49ers avoid the Super Bowl hangover?

The NFL is not like other leagues where successful teams from the previous season usually return to the Super Bowl. So many changes and overhauls to the squad and staff take place during the offseason that maintaining a sustained level of success in consecutive years is extremely rare.

Having said that, the 49ers are still a dominant team that has most of its core players on the roster and head coach Kyle Shanahan is expected to remain with the team for the foreseeable future.

Returning to the Super Bowl or even making a deep postseason run once again will still be quite demanding as the team is fully aware of their horrific 2020 season after reaching Super Bowl LIV the previous year. Will San Francisco be able to avoid the dreadful Super Bowl hangover is one of the important questions for the season ahead.

Will the 49ers finally overcome their last hurdle?

Going a step further, the most important question for the 49ers is whether or not they will be able to go all the way and hoist the Lombardi this year. In the last five seasons, this team has reached the later stages four times, losing in the NFC Championship game twice and the Super Bowl twice.

Incidentally, both times the 49ers have lost in the Super Bowl during this stretch have been to the Kansas City Chiefs. There is no reason why they cannot do it, after all, they have a well-balanced side on both offense and defense and are coached by one of the best in the game today.

Will Nick Bosa regain his 2022 form?

Nick Bosa announced his arrival to the big league as a rookie and since then has been San Francisco’s most dominant defender. Barring his injury in 2020 that saw him take part in just two games, Bosa was a handful to deal with in 2021 and 2022. As a matter of fact, his 2022 season consisted of 18.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss earning him the DPOY award.

Bosa has set an exceedingly high bar for himself when it comes to his pass-rush abilities. So much so that even his 10 sacks and 16 tackles for loss from last season are considered a down year for him. If the 49ers want to go all the way, a lot will depend on the play of their star defensive end.

How will the 49ers’ receiving corps perform?

One big question surrounding this team is how the receiving unit will perform. This offseason has seen a lot of questions concerning the contracts of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Initially, there was a lot of chatter about Deebo Samuel being traded in this offseason and while that has died down, the state of Aiyuk’s contract negotiations have become so unpleasant that it may be affecting the entire team.

It will be interesting to see the mindset of both these players and whether or not their play would have any adverse effects on the others.
