Dallas Cowboys Urged To Add 2-Time Pro Bowl Defender

The Dallas Cowboys are a team that will be under the microscope in 2024. They didn’t do much in the offseason to improve their roster after winning the NFC East last season, which has people wondering if they’ll regress.

Contract extension talks have dominated training camp as well. The Dallas Cowboys have yet to see wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who has remained away from the team awaiting a new deal.

He reportedly wants to become one of the highest-paid players in the NFL, getting close to what Justin Jefferson signed with the Minnesota Vikings for. Quarterback Dak Prescott also needs a new contract as he is set to hit free agency in 2025.

No one seriously believes that Lamb will miss regular season games, but every day that he remains away from the team the odds of that occurring go up. They need to prepare for life without Lamb, which means reinforcing the roster everywhere else to ensure they are as competitive as possible.

There are a few weaknesses currently on the roster that could use an upgrade. One of them is at defensive tackle, where the Bleacher Report NFL Scouting Department believes that Linval Joseph is the best available option.

The well-traveled veteran spent the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bills, appearing in seven games. A two-time Pro Bowler, Joseph may not perform at that level any longer, but he is a steady veteran who could help the Dallas Cowboys.

“Joseph, who played for defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer in Minnesota, would provide a veteran insurance policy at nose tackle. Also, the 35-year-old could help improve Dallas’ run defense, which was one of the team’s biggest issues down the stretch of last season,” as written at Bleacher Report.

Stopping the run is one of the areas the Dallas Cowboys need to improve in. Struggling in that area allows the opposing team to dictate the tempo of the game and makes it very difficult to get off the field.

As mentioned over at Bleacher Report, the team did just acquire Jordan Phillips in a trade. He has the look of a run-stuffer, but may not be the perfect fit schematically for this unit.

With 2023 first-round pick Mazi Smith struggling as a rookie, bringing in some veteran insurance would be smart. Joseph not only improves their weakness but could become a mentor for Smith to help him realize his potential.
