The Cleveland Browns made an unprecedented decision during final roster cuts on Tuesday for this era of football. They opted to hold onto all four quarterbacks that were on the roster during training camp.

Deshaun Watson remains the starter and Jameis Winston was signed in free agency to become his backup. The team also had Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson battling it out for the No. 3 job.

For now, all four quarterbacks remain on the roster, but the situation remains a fluid one, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN . Trade talks have been held, as teams around the league look to add some help to their quarterback depth.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanskid didn’t provide much insight when asked about the decision to keep four quarterbacks, saying , “We have four good quarterbacks.”

He would not commit to saying all four would remain on the roster once Cleveland kicks off the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on September 8th.

Even the depth chart could change. Stefanski revealed Winston’s job as the No. 2 quarterback could change.

“We’re not setting the depth chart with any position,” Stefanski said.

Winston and Huntley signed one-year deals as free agents this offseason. Thompson-Robinson was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft who saw unexpected action as a rookie because of how many injuries the team had at the position.

While keeping four quarterbacks is unprecedented, if there is any team that knows how important quarterback depth is, it is the Browns.

Last season, they cycled through quarterbacks at an alarming rate as no one could stay healthy. They closed the season with veteran Joe Flacco as their starter, who was quite literally pulled off his couch midseason.

Last season, five different quarterbacks made starts for Cleveland. Somehow they were able to navigate that, along with a devastating injury to star running back Nick Chubb, and still make the postseason.

Some more roster shuffling seems imminent for the Cleveland Browns. Only two running backs are currently on the roster, as something feels like it will change in the coming days to clear up the quarterback conundrum behind Watson.
