Detroit Lions Acquire All-Pro Defender In New Trade Idea

The Detroit Lions announced their presence as a contender in the NFC during the 2023 season. They ran away with the NFC North, going 12-5 and earning the No. 2 seed in the conference.

The Lions were able to advance to the NFC Championship Game, where they held a double-digit lead against the San Francisco 49ers but were unable to hold on for the win.

Heading into the 2024 campaign, they are once again considered among the favorites to participate in the Super Bowl. They have a good roster on both sides of the ball, but even the best teams should be keeping their eyes open for upgrades.

One player who could pique the interest of Detroit is safety Budda Baker. The Arizona Cardinals star has been seeking a contract extension for a while and has yet to ink a new one.

Until he does that, trade rumors are going to surround him. Over at Bleacher Report , Alex Kay has cooked up a trade idea that would land the All-Pro with the Lions.

He has suggested that Detroit offer the Cardinals a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for Baker.

“Detroit shouldn’t hesitate to add another playmaker to this improving defense, and the secondary would see an instant boost from Baker’s presence. Even within a safety group that currently includes Brian Branch, Ifeatu Melifonwu and Brandon Joseph, Baker would stick out for his immense talent and quickly lock down a starting job,” Kay wrote.

For the Cardinals, acquiring any draft compensation would be a win. That is better than watching him walk away for nothing more than a compensatory pick in a future draft.

Adding a player of that caliber could inch the Detroit Lions ahead of the other star-studded teams in the NFC. He has been a stellar performer throughout his career, getting the job done in every facet of the game.

Baker is the ultimate playmaker at the safety position, recording seven interceptions, 34 passes defended, 7.5 sacks and 37 tackles for loss during his seven-year career.

A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro Team member, Baker would be a sizable upgrade for any team that acquired him.
