Chicago Bears Acquire Super Bowl Champion QB In This Trade Idea

For the first time in many, many years, there is reason to be optimistic and even excited about the Chicago Bears. They have a potential franchise quarterback in rookie Caleb Williams, not to mention two very productive wide receivers in D.J. Moore and six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen, plus rookie Rome Odunze, who seems to have star potential.

Williams, the No. 1 pick in April’s draft, could very well be this season’s C.J. Stroud — a rookie signal-caller who immediately excels and elevates his team. But like any other rookie signal-caller, he needs adequate support, as well as an insurance policy.

As of now, the only other QB on the Bears’ roster is Tyson Bagent, who played in five games last year as a rookie and threw for 859 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions. He doesn’t exactly seem like a comforting option should Williams get hurt, nor is he a veteran who can help Williams learn the ropes of the NFL.

That is why Alex Kay of Bleacher Report suggested that Chicago trade for veteran QB Joe Flacco.

“Williams has been penned in as the starter since the earliest portions of the offseason and will likely remain as such for years to come,” wrote Kay.

“Still, having a veteran backup on hand to assist in Williams’ development could be a major boon for the Bears. Someone like Joe Flacco, who has Super Bowl experience and a wealth of experience to draw on from an NFL career that began all the way back in 2008, could expedite Williams’ emergence as a superstar.”

Flacco won a Super Bowl championship during the 2012 season, somewhat unexpectedly, when he led the Baltimore Ravens to a victory in the big game over the San Francisco 49ers. Despite being 39 years of age, he had some success last season when the Cleveland Browns brought him out of mothballs following a season-ending shoulder injury to QB1 Deshaun Watson.

He took over under center in Week 13 and immediately led the Browns, who were 7-5 and struggling to remain in the AFC playoff picture at the time, to a four-game winning streak. In his five games with them, he threw for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

He probably wouldn’t exactly be an expensive player for the Chicago Bears to acquire. But his value as an insurance policy and a mentor to Williams who has a world championship ring would probably outweigh the value it would have to give up to the Indianapolis Colts, his new team, to get him.
