    NPD: 16-year-old killed in crash on US 27 in Nicholasville

    UPDATE June 29, 10:15 p.m.: West Jessamine High School posted on social media that the 16-year-old who died from the incident on US 27, was rising senior Jared Suarez. The post described him as a "kind and well-liked student". The school says that counselors, coaches, administrators and support staff will be available at West Jessamine High School from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on Sunday June 30.

    UPDATE June 29, 6:45 p.m.: According to the Nicholasville Police Department, a 16-year-old was driving south on US 27 in the left lane, and upon switching into the right lane, the teenager’s vehicle’s back right bumper made contact with another vehicle's front left, resulting in the teenager losing control and being ejected from the vehicle.

    The 16-year-old was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

    The department says that the roadway is now reopened.

    Original: An official with the Nicholasville Police Department has confirmed that a fatal collision closed lanes on US 27 in Nicholasville on Saturday afternoon.

    According to the department on Facebook, the crash closed the southbound lanes of US 27 at KY 169. The post advises drivers to seek alternative routes while the situation is resolved.
