Livestock nutrition workshops planned in Fairbanks, Delta Junction
Raising livestock in Alaska can be challenging, with animals’ dietary requirements changing with the seasons and the production cycle. Rachael Christensen, a research animal scientist with the Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service, will lead two free livestock nutrition workshops. The focus will be on ruminant species, such as cows, goats, sheep and yaks.
Nikic earns Academic All-American honors
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Leon Nikic from the University of Alaska Anchorage earned Academic All-American At-Large honors from the College Sports Communicators. Nikic enjoyed a stand-out season on the slopes earning All-American honors with a ninth-place finish in the giant slalom and an 11th-place finish in the slalom at the NCAA National Championships. The native of Tux, Austria was named the RMISA Giant Slalom MVP after posting eight top-10 finishes, including four podium finishes. He has a 3.77 GPA in psychology.

Borough Manager Mason Villarma talks with KSTK’s News Director Colette Czarnecki about what the recent plans are in the area. He says that the city has received $40 million dollars in funds so far this year. Some of these funds include revitalizing the harbor, improving school infrastructure and working on an emergency access road.

Wrangell’s Fourth of July festival elevated the town all week
Wrangell has been known to take Fourth of July celebrations to an elevated level – it lasts for a whole week. Many people from all over the globe visit the small island, significantly increasing the population of roughly 2,000 residents. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - High pressure is building in to Alaska over the next few days so much of the state will see some sunshine and warmer temperatures. Southcentral Alaska will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s starting Friday. By Saturday and Sunday, Talkeetna will likely see temperatures near 78 degrees.
