MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The annual Corn Palace Festival begins on Mitchell’s Main Street, north of the Corn Palace, beginning at 5pm on Wednesday August 21st. Brandon Jones will be giving a free concert in the Corn Palace Plaza at 7pm to kick off the free entertainment in the Plaza. Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2024, Callie Mueller, and Miss Teen South Dakota 2024, Alison Zacharias, both explained what it means to hold their respective titles. From traveling the country representing South Dakota to participating at rodeo events throughout Rushmore State, the biggest thing for both is getting to know and interact with people in and outside of the rodeo community, encouraging those people outside of the community to learn a little more about the sport of rodeo.

Man accused of killing 7-week-old baby makes initial court appearance
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - The Rapid City man accused of killing a 7-week-old baby, appeared in court for the first time Tuesday. Shamar “Tay” Bennett, 26, was arrested Monday outside an apartment on Anamosa Street in Rapid City and appeared in magistrate court in Pennington County for his initial appearance. He is charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse.
Popular Sioux Falls Restaurant Closing Eastside Location
A restaurant that has been part of the Sioux Falls dining scene for most of the last 45 years is closing the doors at one of its two locations. Monday (August 19) afternoon, The Keg Chicken made an announcement on its Facebook page that the east side location on Arrowhead Parkway is closing.
Rapid City Area Schools District faculty prepare for opening day

Attendees enjoyed a breakfast buffet before the program commenced at 8 a.m. The event featured performances by the drumlines and cheerleaders from Steven and Central High Schools, with various organizations distributing gifts to the guests.
