Schmackary’s , a New York City bake shop whose cookies were featured in “Only Murders in the Building ,” is making its New Jersey debut.

Scheduled to open Aug. 22 at 41 W. Palisade Ave. in Englewood, the store is the first location to launch as part of the brand’s new franchise program.

Following an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, Schmackary’s will give customers 20% off the purchase of a dozen cookies from noon to 10 p.m. It will also hand out one free cookie to each guest between 5-7 p.m.

Richipal Bindra and Sonia Kaur, a husband-wife team from Fair Lawn, own and operate the upcoming location. The pair were smitten with Schmackary’s after visiting the flagship location.

“We were comparing every franchise we could, but none of them stood out. That was, until we found Schmackary’s. Between their business model, incredible numbers and soul-filled culture, we were sold instantly,” said Bindra, who has experience running an IT business. His wife has a banking background and passion for cooking.

After the grand opening, Schmackary’s in Englewood will be open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The launch comes about a year after the brand announced its plans to expand via franchising. According to Schmackary’s, 13 other locations are on tap for the metropolitan region, including two set to open later this year in New York City.

Founded by aspiring actor Zachary Schmahl in his Hells Kitchen apartment, Schmackary’s opened a storefront 12 years ago in the Theatre District, where it became known as the “Official Cookie of Broadway.”

Its rotating menu of more than 100 flavors includes red velvet, dulce de leche, oatmeal, key lime, green tea, butter pecan, cookie dough, sweet corn, caramel apple crisp and Funfetti. Also, the brand often makes limited-edition themed cookies to tie in with big stage performances on the Great White Way.

Schmackary’s made a cameo in season three of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” when
Paul Rudd’s character gobbled down a cookie decorated with the logo of the cursed “Death Rattle” production. The cookie company is also name-dropped throughout the show, too.

Schmahl said, “It brings me great joy to celebrate the grand opening of our first franchise location. Richipal and Sonia are exemplary franchisees whose dedication and enthusiasm embody the spirit of Schmackary’s. Our Northern New Jersey customers can now enjoy our delicious cookies and coffee without the trek into the city.”
