Noblesville High School hires swim coach
The Noblesville Swim Club and Noblesville High School jointly announced the hiring of Jess Preston as its new head swim coach July 16. Preston comes to Noblesville from Penn High School and Irish Aquatics in Mishawaka. He had been head coach of Penn’s boys and girls teams since 2008, leading them to multiple trips to the IHSAA State Swimming and Diving finals.
Fishers resident heads to Ironman World Championship
Fishers resident Kyle Gabbard has qualified to compete this fall in the annual Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The Ironman World Championship is a Hawaii-based competition that features “the very best male professional and age-group triathletes from around the world,” according to the organization. The competition, which attracts about 2,000 international competitors, is a combined 140.6-mile event that consists of swimming in Kailua Bay, biking along the coast and running through barren lava fields.

PHOENIX (AP) — Allisha Gray won the WNBA All-Star skills competition, beating hometown favorite Sophie Cunningham in the finals Friday night. The Atlanta Dream star had the fastest time in the preliminary round and then was just a second slower in the final round. She edged out Cunningham on the obstacle course that combines passing, dribbling and shooting finishing it in 32.1 seconds.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Kyle Steckly paced Saturday’s practice session for the 58th Annual Redbud 400, recording a time of 12.003 seconds at the quarter-mile Anderson Speedway. Austin Nason was second quickest with Gio Ruggiero, Cody Coughlin and Cole Butcher rounding out the top five. Of note, young Dawson Sutton was sixth, Caden Kvapil was eighth and Casey Roderick — points leader in the ASA Stars National Tour — was 11th.
