NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The City of Noblesville is the latest central Indiana city to implement a DORA – an ordinance that allows residents to drink and openly carry alcohol in certain outdoor areas.

Town officials announced Monday afternoon that Noblesville has received final approval for a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, from the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission.

Back in April, the Noblesville Common Council unanimously approved the ordinance to allow the DORA.

“The district will increase foot traffic, tourism, and spending in the downtown, building on our commitment to supporting our small, locally-owned businesses,” said Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen . “The city has worked closely with local stakeholders, including Noblesville Police Department, to ensure the district is enjoyed safely and responsibly by our community, visitors, and business owners.”

Local business owners also said the DORA will benefit the city.

“Having experienced a DORA before, it makes visiting downtown Noblesville a lot more inviting and relaxing,” said Kari Clouse, owner of Karisma Boutique. “To have the ease and comfort of being able to walk around and experience all of our amazing downtown shopping, restaurants and events versus being confined in one place makes the downtown Noblesville DORA a wonderful activation.”

The downtown Noblesville DORA is expected to be operational this Fall, the city said. For more information, click here.
