    Capitan Miranda returns to Norfolk, offers free tours

    NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Ahoy there! Capitan Miranda, the Uruguayan Navy’s sail training tall ship has returned to Norfolk and is offering the public free tours.

    Boasting distinctive colorful sunburst sails and lively Comparsa musicians, the boat has won
    the “Most Spirit” award at many previous tall ship festivals around the world.

    The Uruguayan Navy selected Norfolk and Miami as the two East Coast ports for the ships sail training schedule. Norfolk is one of the Uruguayan Navy’s favorite ports in the U.S.

    Capitan Miranda arrives just in time for the 4th of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks event happening in Town Point Park from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

    The schooner-style ship, will dock at Otter Berth next to the Waterside District at 333 Waterside Drive and will be open for free tours Wednesday, July 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    It will depart Norfolk Friday, July 5 at 10 a.m.
