Prep sports recap for March 21, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Steve Paxson is a 500-game winner.

Griffin Meyer had a pair of hits and knocked in three runs as U-High won at Metamora, 6-2, in a non-conference baseball game Thursday. The victory is the 500th of Paxon’s coaching career.

Paxon has been coaching 23 years and has coached 13 teams to conference titles. His 2021 Pioneers finished third at state.

Starting pitcher Ethan Kieser and reliever Cameron Clifton scattered seven hits and struck out eight while only allowing an earned run in the Pioneer victory.

Other baseball winners Thursday included Morton, Dunlap and East Peoria.

Normal Community and U-High won girls soccer matches. And Washington outscored Dunlap, 13-8, in girls lacrosse.
