PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Emmerson Steward belted a homer and Maggie Stadler pitched a shutout as Normal U-High blanked Macon Meridian, 2-0, to capture the class 2A softball regional championship at Illinois Wesleyan on Friday.

The Pioneers advance to the Monticello sectional next week. They will play the winner of the Westville Regional in the sectional semifinal.

Steward scored U-High’s first run after she doubled and scored on a single by Jordan Roop in the second inning. Her homer off the leftfield scoreboard in the fifth gave the Pioneers their 2-0 lead.

Olympia and IVC also won class 2A softball regionals. Havana and Henry-Senachwine won class 1A regional titles on Friday.

Dunlap’s Sutton Centoni struck out 22 hitters in a 3-2 win over East Peoria in 13 innings. Dunlap can earn a share of the Mid-Illini Conference title alongside East Peoria and Metamora with a Saturday win at Morton (see below for highlights).

Notre Dame, Richwoods, U-High, Morton and Normal Community won soccer regional championships on Friday night (see below for Richwoods-Dunlap updated highlights). Central Catholic beat Athens 1-0 to advance to the class 1A sectional championship at Williamsville.
