    Prep sports recap for May 18, 2024

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Normal U-High didn’t win an event but won the girls class 2A state track and field title at Eastern Illinois University on Saturday.

    U-High got a second-place finish from Zoe Carter and a third from Natalie Bierbaum in the 3200 meters. And the Pioneer also fared well in the relays by taking second in the 4×100, third in the 4×200 and fifth in the 4×400.

    Normal Community senior Ali Ince won the 800 meters, the 1600 meters and anchored the state runner-up 4×400 relay her final Illinois High School association meet. She finishes her career with ten state championships. Her winning time of 2:05.33 in the 800 is a meet record.

    Elmwood-Brimfield junior Mya Strahm on the class 1A pole vault with a state record jump of 14 feet 1.25 inches. Tri-Valley’s Laney Nelson won the class 1A triple jump.

    El Paso-Gridley finished third in the class 1A team standings on the strength of a runner-up finish in the high jump by Aubrey Phillips and excellent results in the relays. EPG took second in the 4×200, third in the 4×100 and 4×400 and eighth in the 4×800.

    Notre Dame, Heyworth, Illini Bluffs and Delavan won baseball regional titles. While Illini Bluffs, Heyworth and Leroy won softball regional championships.

    East Peoria’s 11-3 win at Pekin earned the Raiders a share of the Mid-Illini baseball title with Dunlap. And Dunlap’s 8-3 win at Morton earned the Eagles a share of their first Mid-Illini softball championship.

    Normal Community, Dunlap and Metamora won tennis sectional titles Saturday.
