Paul Finebaum Reveals Which Major CFB Program Isn't Ready To Compete In 2024

Several college football teams are embarking on new territory as they join different conferences. The USC Trojans, Washington Huskies and Oregon Ducks will compete in the Big Ten, while the Colorado Buffaloes, Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils and Utah Utes will be part of the Big 12.

Two of the major brands, the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns, are making a change. They are moving from the Big 12 to the SEC. Heading into the 2024 season, Texas has gained national attention after its recent College Football Playoff appearance, while Oklahoma has received slightly less recognition.

Paul Finebaum stated on The Matt Barrie Show that he believes the Sooners will not be an issue in the SEC in 2024, but Oklahoma will be in the future.

"No," Finebaum said. "I don't think they are going to be this year. But, they are certainly going to be in the future."

Finebaum pointed to the program's history and current management as reasons Oklahoma could become a dominant force. He noted that Oklahoma's decision to extend head coach Brent Venables' contract, despite not having won a conference title or a bowl game, demonstrates the program's commitment to its direction.

Finebaum expressed his admiration for Venables and highlighted the impact of Venables' departure on Clemson before the 2022 season. He emphasized that Venables was one of the most influential coordinators in a program that he has seen in a long time.

Finebaum anticipates much success from Oklahoma in the near future.
