NORMAN — OU redshirt junior Jeff Nwankwo will miss the 2024-25 season with a torn Achilles, per a report from SoonerScoop.com.

Nwankwo reportedly tore his Achilles during summer workouts, has had surgery and will remain on scholarship.

The former Putnam City North basketball and football standout spent last season at Cowley (Kansas) College after playing football at Tulane.

Three days after decommitting from Cal, the second-ranked junior college prospect announced his commitment to OU on May 15 with two years of eligibility remaining. Nwankwo, a 6-foot-6 junior college All-American, averaged 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season at Cowley.

Four-star Jeremiah Fears, one of the top point guards nationally in the 2025 class, who announced his commitment to OU Saturday, is expected to reclassify to the 2024 class and contribute this season. OU lost five of its top six scorers from last season, as well as prized freshman Kaden Cooper to the transfer portal.

Sooners head coach Porter Moser has yet to make the NCAA tournament entering his fourth season at OU.
