Seasonal Closures for City Splash Pads
The Norman Parks splash pad at Colonial Estates Park, 1641 E Lindsey Street, will close for the season effective 9/26/22. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until Monday and will reopen in early Summer 2023. The City also has a splash pad at Andrews Park, 201 W Daws St., which is already closed for the season.
Concrete panel repair at Alameda Street & 12th Avenue NE Intersection
Nash Construction Company, a contractor for the City of Norman, will begin permanent repair of damaged concrete panels on the west side of 12th Avenue NE and Alameda Street Intersection on 9/26/22. This work is in response buckling of concrete pavement that took place during extreme heat in previous months. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both eastbound and westbound direction while these repairs are being completed. Traffic control devices will be in place to guide the travelling public through this construction.
Traffic Advisory: Lane closures, 24th Ave NE between Wheaton Drive and Creighton Drive
On September 21, 2022, Public Works crews will begin replacing a damaged stormwater pipe on 24th Ave NE, located south of Wheaton Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained but limited to one lane in each direction through the work zone. Traffic control devices will be in place to guide the travelling public during this construction. Alternate routes are advised. These repairs will take approximately 10 days to complete depending on weather conditions.
Community to celebrate renovation of Vineyard Park with Ribbon-cutting

Monarchs in the Park event returns to Norman in October
Monarchs in the Park returns to Norman on October 2 with plant sales, pollinator educational booths, family crafts and more. Butterfly and pollinator costumes are encouraged at the admission-free event that will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Andrews Park, 201 W. Daws, and Norman Public Library Central, 103 W. Acres.

Fall 2022 Electronics Waste event slated for September 17, 2022
The City of Norman will host an Electronics Waste (“E-Waste”) Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 17, 2022. The event will take place at Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Avenue, and is open to all Norman residents. Post Oak Road between 60th Avenue SE and 72nd Avenue SE to close on 8/29/2022
The City of Norman Public Works Streets Division staff will close East Post Oak Road between 60th Avenue SE and 72nd Avenue SE to thru traffic for repair of damaged drainage pipe and roadway on 8/29/22. Emergency Closure of Porter Avenue between Comanche Street and Eufaula Stree
UPDATE, 6 P.M. 8/18/22: Repairs have been made and traffic has resumed as it was prior to damage repair (portions of Porter are still under construction). POSTED 6:30 A.M. 8/18/22: On the evening of 8/17/22, a pavement failure on Porter Avenue at the Eufaula Street intersection occurred. City crews quickly arrived to assess damages and begin the repair process. Repairs are ongoing this morning 8/18/22 and Porter Avenue remains closed. A detour route has been made available but alternate routes are advised at this time.
City of Norman awarded nearly $900,000 in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration
By way of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the City of Norman has received one of only 150 grants awarded across the country and U.S. territories by the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration. Grant dollars, in the amount of $894,963, will be used to purchase compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to replace buses that have exceeded their useful life.
Asp Avenue Fire Line Construction begins August 15, 2022
A private, underground water line to serve the proposed Raising Cane’s restaurant at 765 Asp Avenue – for fire protection services – will be installed from the City’s water main on Asp Avenue beginning 8/15/22. The installation will affect travel in areas along Asp Avenue between Boyd Street and White Street for approximately eight days. East Rock Creek Road to close between 24th Ave NE and 36th Ave NE for 7 days
On the morning of 8/22/22, both lanes of East Rock Creek Road will be closed in a 200 foot section between 24th Avenue NE and 36th Avenue NE to accommodate for construction. The closure will last approximately one week, weather permitting. A signed detour will be in place using 24th Avenue NE, East Tecumseh Road and 36th Avenue NE. Access to the Rock Creek Road properties will be from the east at 36th Avenue NE.
Lane closure on 12th Ave SE between Alameda and Mockingbird Lane
On August 9, 2022, Public Works crews will begin repairing a damaged stormwater inlet box and grates located just south of Alameda on 12th Ave SE at the east entrance to the Alameda Square Shopping Center. The outside southbound lane of 12th AVE SE will be closed in front of the entrance to the center. These repairs will take approximately seven days to complete depending on weather conditions. Those traveling in the area should do so with caution and adhere to all signage placed.
