Citywide Asphalt Preventive Maintenance to soon begin
Asphalt preventive maintenance activities are slated to begin 8/9/22 in Broce Industrial Park (Bart Connor Drive, Broce Drive, and Broce Court). This is the first of several areas that will receive an asphalt preventive maintenance treatment. Asphalt preventive maintenance is a relatively inexpensive treatment utilized to seal the surface of asphalt pavement thus extending the life of the pavement. Innovative Roadway Solutions, a contractor for the City of Norman, will be performing the described work.
Westwood Family Aquatic Center Closed on 7/31/22 for Lifeguard Games, Back to School Hours Begin 8/6/22
Westwood Family Aquatic Center will be closed for the day on Sunday, July 31, 2022, for staff members to host Lifeguard Games – an event which brings together lifeguards to demonstrate skills, teamwork, and unique abilities while engaging in a fun and competitive day of events. Norman not impacted by Boil Order for Wildfire Estates
City staff members have recently received several inquiries about a boil water order in Cleveland County. This order, issued 7/2/22 from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), does NOT affect Norman. It was issued for the separate water system of the Wildfire Estates, a community outside of Norman City Limits. Norman is NOT under a boil order at this time. Questions about this should be directed to the ODEQ.
Norman Parks & Recreation Survey in the works
Residents may have been or may be contacted via call or text to complete a Parks & Recreation survey for the City of Norman. To continue offering programs that residents need and support, the Department of Parks & Recreation periodically contracts with a third-party research company to conduct a study of randomly selected households. This process began in May 2022; ETC Institute, the contracted research firm, is now reminding selected households to complete the survey by phone call and text. Norman bike lane projects completed
Construction that began in May on bike lane projects – one at University Boulevard between Apache Street and Boyd Streets and one on Webster Avenue between Daws Street and Duffy Street – have been completed. The projects were made possible by an $11,402 Air Quality Small Grant awarded in January 2022 through the Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Committee of the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments.
Celebrate independence at Norman’s 2022 Fourth Fest!
The Parks & Recreation Department invites the entire community out to Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Avenue, for Norman’s Fourth Fest!. The City of Norman’s Independence Day celebration has been a staple in the community for years and the tradition will continue this July 4th beginning at 5 p.m. There will be food trucks, family yard games, live music, and a new area where individuals 21 and up may enjoy local beer from community breweries. Let freedom ring underneath the biggest fireworks show in the state, beginning just before 10 p.m.!
