The City of North Bend is excited to announce the return of the July Jubilee, celebrating the city’s 121st birthday after a hiatus since 2020 due to the pandemic. The festivities will run from July 12th through July 14th, with this year’s theme being “A New Vision.”

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the city appointed the 2024 July Jubilee Ambassador Court. The court includes students who will preside over the festivities and represent the city at various events and programs throughout the upcoming year. The 2024 Jubilee Court includes Clara Messner, Sophia Ryan, Addie Hanson, Juliana De La Torre, and Addyson Garrett.

Additionally, the city welcomed back members of past Jubilee courts who helped with the coronation, including:

    • Princess Amee Springsteen, 2004 Court

    • Princess Jordyn Wicks, 2016 Court

    • Princess Isabella Jensen, 2019 Court

Special recognition was given to Pat Choat Pierce, a founding member of the North Bend July Jubilee birthday celebration, and coordinator of the original Jubilee Court.

The July Jubilee celebration began in 1983 to mark North Bend’s 80th year as an incorporated city. The original invitation stated:

    “WHY A JULY JUBILEE?

We’re planning to celebrate North Bend’s 80th year as an incorporated city. On July 6, 1903, Louis Simpson petitioned Oregon’s Secretary of State to incorporate both the townsite of Yarrow and an area his father had developed at the north bend of the Coos Bay as the city of NORTH BEND. Due to the large number of bills to come before the Legislature that year, the House and Senate were unable to act on the request until December 28 when Senate Bill #5 created the CITY OF NORTH BEND.”

Now, 41 years later, we are proud to celebrate North Bend’s 121st birthday!
