NORTH CANTON ‒ A man's car was shot while he was driving in the 400 block of West Maple Street early Thursday, police said.

The suspect admitted to police that he used a .22-caliber rifle and fired one round at a vehicle that passed his home, striking the front passenger door and shattering a window.

The 67-year-old has been charged with felonious assault, vandalism and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.

In a press release, police said they responded to the incident at 1:57 a.m.

The victim said he heard a loud pop or bang and his front passenger window shattered.

"He drove a bit further, and then stopped to check his car, discovering a bullet hole in the front passenger side door just below the window," police said in a prepared statement. "The victim was uninjured."

Officers searched the area on foot, but found nothing while searching in the middle of the night.

    Detectives identifed the suspect.

Police said he was arrested and booked into the Stark County Jail on Thursday after making a full confession.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Canton Municipal Court. No attorney was listed for him in court records on Friday morning.
