Meet the US Track and Field Olympians with North Carolina ties

U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials wrapped up in Eugene, Oregon Sunday night.

Here are the athletes with North Carolina ties who finished in the top three in Eugene. In most cases, that should be enough for them to qualify for Paris.

Anna Cockrell

Cockrell, a Charlotte native, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles Sunday, running a 52.64.

• The Providence Day alumna graduated with honors from the University of Southern California in 2019. She also competed in the Tokyo Olympics.
• Her brother, Ross Cockrell, played for the Carolina Panthers and her father Kieth Cockrell is president of Bank of America Charlotte.

Veronica Fraley

The Raleigh native, who attended Clemson and Vanderbilt , qualified in the discus throw with a distance of 62.54 meters at the trials, finishing third.

McKenzie Long

Long will compete in the women's 200-meter race after finishing third at the trials and running a 21.91.

• Long ran track at NC State before transferring to Ole Miss as a graduate student.
• Long runs in memory of her late mother, Tara Jones, who died of a heart attack .

Brynn King

King finished third in women's pole vault at the trials. The Texas native earned a degree in evolutionary anthropology at Duke. She also competed for the Blue Devils before transferring to Roberts Wesleyan in New York.

Parker Wolfe

Wolfe is coming off an NCAA national championship title for North Carolina in the 5,000-meter in June. He finished third in the 5,000-meter Sunday night in Eugene with a time of 13:10.75, a personal best.

Madison Wiltrout

Wiltrout, a North Carolina alumna, finished third in the trials on Sunday's women's javelin throw final. She threw 61.17 meters. The Pennsylvania native holds the Tar Heel school record and the ACC javelin throw record.
