Last month, Crazy Town singer Shifty Shellshock, real name Seth Binzer, passed away following an apparent overdose. Crazy Town came to prominence in 2000 on the back of No. 1 single “Butterfly.” The band’s debut album, “The Gift of Game,” sold more than a million copies, and the group toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and made an appearance on Ozzfest.

Sadly, Binzer’s friend and sober coach, Tim Ryan, has revealed that the singer was living on the streets in the months preceding his passing.

“The last I heard about Seth, he had been bouncing from house to house, and then he had been living in a tent in MacArthur Park,” Ryan told TMZ . “My wife, Jennifer, was in Los Angeles and actually received a phone call that they had kind of located where he was. I was waiting for her to come back from L.A. to Florida so I could hop on a plane and get out there and try to locate him and help him again.”

Ryan continued: “But again, Seth could help anybody and love anybody, but he had a hard time loving himself. My last conversation with Seth was about two and a half months ago, and he was struggling. He had unfortunately relapsed and been back out there. But the thing about Seth was, he would be more willing to help somebody else get into treatment, get into sober living, then help himself.”

Ryan said that up until a DUI arrest last year, Binzer had been doing well in his battle with addiction. “He was on fire and just doing amazing,” Ryan said. “And then he picked up the DUI in North Carolina back on tour again and I think that was the catalyst that started the wheels coming off again unfortunately.”
