NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Police are investigating a chase involving two Mercedes vehicles, gunfire, and a multi-vehicle crash on Dorchester Road near Cannondale Drive on Saturday evening around 7 p.m.

The incident began when officers received multiple calls reporting a red Mercedes firing shots at a white Mercedes. Witnesses recounted that the white Mercedes was actively chasing the red vehicle. The chase ended in a collision, resulting in a multi-vehicle crash.

One victim involved in the crash informed officers that a red Mercedes had sped past him. Shortly after, the white Mercedes collided with the red Mercedes, causing a chain reaction that involved several other vehicles. Following the crash, the driver of the red Mercedes fled the scene and has not been found.

Police questioned the occupants of the white Mercedes, a man and a woman, whose statements were inconsistent. Initially, both individuals claimed to have been driving the vehicle.

However, the woman eventually admitted to being the driver. Contrarily, witnesses at the scene identified the man as the driver.

The driver of the white Mercedes was charged with reckless driving and driving under suspension. She was cited and released pending further investigation.

The North Charleston Police Department is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
