Man Arrested after Deputies Find Fentanyl at Franklin County Traffic Stop
WHITTINGTON – A Franklin County man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon on I-57 near Illinois 154 in Whittington. Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says 21-year-old Nathaniel R. Sloan of Benton is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – a Class 3 felony – and Possession with the Intent to Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance – a Class X felony. He is lodged in the Franklin County Jail. Sheriff Bacon says additional charges are pending.
Area Athletes Play Well At Green Hills Ram Jam
Green Hills Golf Course in Mount Vernon hosted the Ram Jam on Thursday. Salem sophomore Mya Russell won the 14-18 year old division after rained turned the 18-hole event, into a 9-hole tournament after rain moved through with Russell on the 12th hold. Mya won her division with Taylor Ice 3rd. Salem’s Jaren Harmon and Regan Shuler also competed in the same division.
You Too Can Canoe program to be held at Lake Murphysboro State Park
MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KFVS) - Join the Giant City State Park Naturalist at Lake Murphysboro State Park for a casual paddle around the lake. The “You Too Can Canoe” program will be held from 9:30 - 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, and Saturday, August 17. According to Giant City State Park, the free program will include a brief overview of canoeing safety, techniques, and on-the-water opportunities for wildlife observation.
Fishing 101 for Adults to be held at Giant City State Park
MAKANDA, Ill. (KFVS) - Giant City State Park will be holding fishing lessons for adults in August for those who want to learn the basics. On Tuesday, August 6, join local Urban Fishing Coordinator, Ethan Taylor Stephenson, as he shares tips on fish identification, baiting, lures, and casting. The event lasts from 6-7:30 p.m.
Juvenile arrested after threatening another with a firearm in Carbondale
CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A juvenile has been arrested after threatening another with a firearm in Carbondale. On July 19th around 10:45pm, police received a complaint about a male in possession of a handgun and threatening a store manager in the 500 block of East Main Street. The male was not immediately located, but a few hours later police received another complaint of someone with a firearm and similar vehicle description.
Colt World Series Opens Friday In Marion….Hosts Take Loss, Southern Illinois Opens Today
The Colt World Series opened in Marion yesterday. The opening game saw Prague, Czech Republic get an extra innings win over Bay County, Michigan 10-6. Team Tokyo, Japan beat Palmview Texas 6-2. Masaya, Nicaragua made a statement with their 9-0 win over Covina, California. And in the night cap, Marion lost to Monterrey, Mexico 5-2.
Mount Vernon Township High School to conduct active shooter drill
MOUNT VERNON, IL (KBSI) – The Mount Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office to conduct their annual active shooter drill. The officers will be at Mount Vernon Township High School on July 29 and July 31 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a heavy police presence near the school.
