SIU Carbondale’s summer 2024 enrollment rises
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Following a strong fall and spring, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is enjoying increasing enrollment this summer, up about 3.4% from last year. “This great news is the result of the tireless efforts of many Salukis and the strategic planning outlined in Imagine 2030,” said Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “In recent years, we have improved access, removed barriers and promoted what SIU Carbondale has to offer. Man Arrested after Deputies Find Fentanyl at Franklin County Traffic Stop
WHITTINGTON – A Franklin County man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon on I-57 near Illinois 154 in Whittington. Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says 21-year-old Nathaniel R. Sloan of Benton is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – a Class 3 felony – and Possession with the Intent to Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance – a Class X felony. He is lodged in the Franklin County Jail. Sheriff Bacon says additional charges are pending.

John Thad Glass departed this life on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, having reached the age of 82 years. John was born in Marion, Indiana on July 29, 1941, son of John Ambrose Glass and Ada Douglas Dial. On August 7, 1976, he was united in marriage to Judy Glock in Washington Park, Illinois and two sons came to bless the union.

Franklin County Man Sentenced to Prison for Producing Counterfeit U.S. Currency
EAST ST. LOUIS – A federal district judge sentenced a man from Christopher, Illinois, to 24 months’ imprisonment after he admitted to printing counterfeit money. Michael A. Eskew, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of manufacture of counterfeit obligations of the U.S., one count of possession of counterfeit obligations of the U.S., and one count of possessing digital image of U.S. currency for counterfeiting.
