Aaron Hesseltine set to take on new challenge
SARANAC LAKE — Whether its a climbing the High Peaks or doing an extreme stamina challenge, Saranac Lake native Aaron Hesseltine enjoys pushing himself. So when his scheduled boxing match fell through in March, the 25-year-old decided he’d take on one of the most extreme challenges this area has to offer — Ironman Lake Placid, an event that combines a 2.4-mile, a 112-mile bike ride and a full 26.2-mile marathon run. He’ll be one of the 2,500 athletes taking part in the event on Sunday, July 21.
Ironman Lake Placid returns for a 25th running
LAKE PLACID — Ironman Lake Placid, which this year is celebrating its 25th anniversary, returns on Sunday, July 21. Ironman Lake Placid, the second-longest-running Ironman event in North America behind only the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, will see competitors from all over the world take part in the 140.6-mile Ironman race. The event consists of a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

Lake Placid Ironman is the ultimate test
This Sunday morning will bring the annual Ironman Lake Placid in Lake Placid, N.Y., as thousands of triathletes will tackle the 2.5-mile swim and 112-mile bike, and finish up with the 26.2-mile marathon. Ironman Lake Placid is the third-most recommended in the world, while also ranked second among the best runs in the North American region and the third-best overall race in the North American Region. My son Jake, who has a couple of half-ironman races on his resume, will race in the pro division, which will be his first full ironman. He goes in ranked 45th in the race.

The Adirondack Chill youth baseball team, which consists of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Plattsburgh players, won the Adirondack Lightning Showcase Tournament’s 12 U division title in Lake Placid on Sunday, July 14. LAKE PLACID — The 25th Ironman Lake Placid will take place on Sunday, July 21; its course defined along roads throughout Lake Placid, Keene, Jay, Upper Jay, AuSable Forks and Wilmington. Ironman Lake Placid organizers have, once again, established a community liaison to assist businesses and community members with questions related to race training and travel throughout the region, along with addressing specific race-day issues.
Blue Rocks offense struggles in 5-1 loss to Cyclones
After winning the first two games of the series, the Wilmington Blue Rocks took their first loss in this six-game set against the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 5-1. Other than that one run, Wilmington’s offense struggled throughout the game. A big part of that is the strong outing by Brooklyn’s starter, Kade Morris. Morris allowed just four hits in six innings while striking out two.
