All Exotic Fruit Fly Invasions Now Snuffed Out in California
The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), working in coordination with the USDA, the Riverside County Agricultural Commissioner, and the San Bernardino County Agricultural Commissioner, has declared an end to the Oriental fruit fly quarantine in the Redlands-area following eradication of the invasive species. The lifting of this quarantine signals the successful completion of a nearly year-long collaborative effort to eradicate four unique invasive fruit fly species (Tau, Queensland, Mediterranean, and Oriental) from seven quarantine areas across seven California counties — San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Clara, Sacramento, and Contra Costa.

Los Angeles County firefighters are getting much needed help in lowering wildfire risk by using goats and sheep to chew away away at dry vegetation.The Los Angeles County Fire Department held a demonstration Tuesday in the Topanga area to show how the animals help clear brush in fire-prone areas. The animals helped clear about 32 acres of brush.It's all a part of the Fire Fuel Reduction Initiative, which is funded by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. LOS ANGELES — Nearly 1 million people are released from California prisons and jails every year. While many have a place to go, they don’t always have a ride there. The Anti-Recidivism Coalition’s Ride Home Program, created in collaboration with Stanford University, helps formerly incarcerated people transition back to society with a ride to their approved transitional housing, along with a meal of their choice, a new outfit, a cellphone and toiletries.
