NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — North Haven fire officials say a “high pressure” ruptured gas main caused the evacuation of a hotel and stopped both vehicle and rail traffic Tuesday morning.

Fire officials said the leak was in the 200 block of Washington Avenue. According to North Haven police, the main was struck by a construction crew.

As of 11:30 a.m., the nearby Best Western hotel has been evacuated and police said the railroad was affected.

Around 12:30 p.m., Amtrak officials said none of their trains were in the area at the time, so their service was not affected.

Wadsworth Avenue and the Interstate 91 on and off ramps were temporarily closed, but had reopened by 2:10 p.m.
