NYC schools will have universal dress code for first time
For the first time, all New York City public school students will have to abide by a universal school dress code. The New York City Council approved legislation Thursday that requires public school dress codes to comply with Title IV, the federal civil rights law that bars discrimination based on gender.
Manhasset Parent Association For Special Education Receives Grant
The Manhasset Parent Association for Special Education (PASE) would like to thank the Manhasset Community Fund for their generous grant to our non-profit organization. Manhasset PASE was founded in 1990 to support the needs of special education students in the district. Our mission is to be a driving force in the development and enhancement of special education programs offered in Manhasset. The grant from the Manhasset Community Fund will allow us to fund programs that directly impact and benefit special education students in Manhasset. With this grant, we will be able to continue to provide programs, workshops and scholarships to our special education students and their families. It is with sincere gratitude and deep appreciation that we thank the Manhasset Community Fund for their continued support and generous grant to our organization.

Pleines Piano Students Perform In Recital And Win National Honors
Port Washington piano students of Ruth Pleines’s multi-media studio were featured at the 44th annual recital on Saturday, June 8, at Shelter Rock Church in Manhasset. Family and friends enjoyed the pianists’ choice of solos and duets reflecting the various musical eras—Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, including popular and jazz.
Love Your Neighbor Project awards scholarships
Love Your Neighbor Project, a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to fostering community connections, recently awarded scholarships to several inspiring students. Jaime Teich, the project’s founder, explained that scholarships provide financial support and encouragement to students and community members who demonstrate a commitment to enhancing their communities. The organization has expanded its scholarship initiative since its inception last year.

Albertson’s Henry Viscardi School Receives Additional $522,000 in State Funding
Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx) and Assemblymember Gina Sillitti (D-Port Washington) announced additional funding for the Henry Viscardi School during a recent stop on the speaker’s annual statewide tour, bringing the school’s state funding to 1.25 million dollars, according to a press release from Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Silitti’s offices.

State education officials could potentially do away with the Regents exam, as part of its vision to provide multiple pathways to a high school diploma. The changes, if implemented, could alter the existing graduation requirements for public schools across the state — including in Rockville Centre, where alternative pathways such as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate diplomas are already offered.
Dean Who Shepherded NY Studio School’s Signature Drawing Marathon Retires
At the beginning of this month, the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture announced that British-born artist Graham Nickson had retired from his position as dean of the Manhattan art school after 36 years. During his longtime tenure, Nickson was a champion of drawing and comprehensive arts education, having established the Studio School’s celebrated Drawing Marathon in 1988 and its Master of Fine Arts program in 2004.

Hempstead, NY – 298 Hofstra University student-athletes were named to the Coastal Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester. The conference announced 3,876 student-athletes from across its CAA member institutions. Student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll must have participated in a CAA-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the designated academic term, and have been enrolled as a full-time student.
