Birthday cards wanted for woman turning 100

NORTH PORT — Viola Burns met Bohdonna "Donna" Bilowchtchuk while volunteering, and now she wants to gift her friend a fat stack of birthday cards for her 100th year on Earth.

Bilowchtchuk was born July 25, 1924, Burns said on social media.

She had a lot of life in those years along the way, according to Burns.

Bilowchtchuk is an accomplished "pianist, violinist, oil and water color artist, and sketch artist," Burns said.

She is also an interpreter of five languages

"She was one of two women in her class to graduate with two engineering degrees, only to be able to get a receptionist job," Burns said. "(She was) born in Ukraine and lived in Germany, where she told me she, her mom and sister walked across it as the Russians were invading … a very resilient woman."

To award such strength, Burns wants the community to send her cards.

Burns said she is just happy she can be there for Bilowchtchuk.

"She’s cute as a bug in a rug," Burns stated.
