2nd Annual Children’s Fishing Rodeo Held at Somerville Moose Lodge
Somerville Moose Lodge Moose Legion Committee sponsored the 2nd Annual Children’s Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 29th at the Moose Lodge lake. Thirteen boys and girls had lots of fun with their parents as they cast their hooks for the First Fish Caught, the Biggest Fish, the Most Fish, the Smallest Fish and the Last Fish Caught in two age groups. Medallions were awarded to the winners in each category. Gift certificates and fishing tackle were given out as “door prizes.” Children, parents, and Moose volunteers were treated to burgers, hotdogs, chips, and plenty of cold water throughout the day.

Two-Alarm Fire Saturday in Haverhill Displaces Residents; Blaze Began in Mulch Outside Building
There were no injuries, but up to a dozen residents were displaced Saturday afternoon after a two-alarm fire at a multifamily building on Arlington Street in Haverhill. Haverhill Fire Chief Robert M. O’Brien said the fire appears to have been started by careless disposal of cigarettes in mulch near the front entrance of the home at 34-36 Arlington St.

The Zoning Board of Appeals reviews and approves applications for variances from the town’s zoning bylaw under Chapter 40A of the Massachusetts General Laws. After a pleasant day with highs in the mid-80s, Massachusetts will experience unsettled weather Monday evening that could be marked by heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Massachusetts seems to have a law for everything and while it makes sense for some things others are just strange. As we all know the 4th of July recently passed and Massachusetts is the only state that has a law against consumer fireworks including buying, selling, and using. Some folks agree with this law while others think it's complete nonsense. In addition, this law doesn't seem to be enforced in Massachusetts at least not in my area. So, why even have the law if it's not being enforced? Either way, the law is the law.
