North Ridgeville residents and city workers trying to save goose in danger

There's a goose in trouble in North Ridgeville. Residents visiting South Central Park have been trying to capture the bird after it was spotted with a fishing line wrapped around its legs.

Steve Holland and his wife, along with others, have been attempting for over a week to help the goose, but every time someone gets close enough to grab the bird, it flies off.

Holland was able to snap a photo of the goose and the fishing line. Residents are concerned for the animal's health as it looks like one of its legs has started to swell.

According to North Ridgeville Parks and Recreation Director Kevin M. Fougerousse, the city has also been attempting to catch the goose for the last two weeks.

"Unfortunately, the goose is now alert to the fact that anytime an individual approaches, it retreats back into the water. Our hope is we can secure the goose and free it," he said.

Fougerousse advises residents who are fishing at South Central Park to clean up any broken fishing lines and hooks to prevent other animals from becoming entangled.

"The fishing line, hooks, etc., become detrimental to the wildlife and can pose drastic health and safety issues in the park," Fougerousse said.

We've reached out to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division to see if there's anything the state can do to help.
