A trio of salutes to our nation’s independence are scheduled locally on Thursday, July 4.

The biggest celebration is planned in Jackson where music, food, and fireworks are planned for 5-10 p.m. at the Northampton County Cultural and Wellness Center.

The BlackWater Band promises to thoroughly entertain the crowd with their variety of music. Based out of Clarkton, NC, the group plays Top 40, Blues, Funk, and Country.

Longtime local radio personality Jay Jenkins will emcee the event.

A fireworks show will take place at around 9:15 p.m.

Food vendors will be on site. They will offer fish, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken phillys, French fries, barbecue, fried Oreos, Italian Ice, water, soft drinks, and lemonade.

This event is co-sponsored by the Northampton County Chamber of Commerce, Northampton County Tourism, Northampton County local government, and Northampton County municipalities.

In Hertford County, two fireworks shows are planned, both around 9:15 p.m., in Ahoskie (at Hertford County High School) and Winton (at the new courthouse). There will be vendors on site at the Winton event.
