Wellsboro, Pa. — Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries invites dog parents and their best friends to the second annual Show Off!

This event celebrates dogs of all breeds, sizes, mixes, ages, and abilities, and all of it supports a great cause.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring back this fundraiser to benefit the lost, abandoned and at-risk animals we assist through Second Chance ,” said Jim Howe, Second Chance’s board president. “Last year was so much fun for both dogs and people.”

This year's Show Off is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grand Canyon Veterinary Clinic’s grounds at 11765 Route 6, Wellsboro, across from Weis Markets.

The Show Off is centered around a series of competitions for dogs and their owners, with categories such as “Tiny Show-Offs,” “Still-Got-It-Seniors,” “Fetch-Crazed,” and “Who You Calling Dog?”

Four categories with three to five events each are held back-to-back throughout the day, culminating with doggie fashion shows.

Each event will be individually judged, with prizes for the winner.

Early-bird registration prior to Sept. 1 is $20 for each dog's first event. Regular registration after Sept. 1 is $25 for each dog's first event. Registering a dog for more events adds $5 for each addition, regardless of registration time. Each dog can participate in up to four events.

The first 50 entrants receive an event T-shirt and matching dog bandanna, both subject to availability. For more information on the competition and to register, visit www.secondchanceas.org/show-off .

“Though the canine competitions are the main draw of the day, there will be so much more to do, whether you own a dog or not,” said Howe. “We’ll be grilling up hot dogs and offering pup cups. We already have local vendors committed, as well as lots of fun activities for both kids and dogs to round out the day. This will really be an amazing chance for dogs and people who love dogs to gather, all to help local animals in need.”

Vendors, individuals, or groups that can offer dog-related demonstrations or entertainment are invited to join the Show Off. Nonprofit groups and demonstrators can set up for free; for-profit vendor space is $20 per space.

Vendors and entertainers can sign up at www.secondchanceas.org/show-off or email secondchanceas@yahoo.com for more information.
