    The following is a round-up of current PennDOT road work and construction projects in northcentral Pa.:

    Lycoming County

    A two-year embankment stabilization project continues on Route 44 between Route 973 and Waterville in Cummings Township and between Route 220 and Torbert Lane in Watson Township.

    Work on Route 44 between Route 220 and Torbert Lane, Watson Township.

    The week of Monday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 23, the contractor will perform milling, resurfacing, and shoulder back up. Additional work includes erosion control work throughout the project area. Work will be performed during daylight hours.The week of Monday, Monday, Aug. 26, the contractor will install the new guide rail throughout the newly resurfaced area. Work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

    Drivers should expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $9.3 million embankment stabilization project administered through a partnership between EQT Production Company and PennDOT. Work includes stabilization of 18 embankment areas using a combination of geosynthetic reinforced soil, soil nailing, and soldier pile and lagging walls.

    Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Traffic will be maintained using single lane with a combination of temporary traffic signals and flagging where work is being performed. Motorists should expect traffic delays and wait times where work is being performed. Work is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2025.     Resurfacing on Route 44 and 3003

    A roadway and bridge replacement project continues on Main Street (Route 44) and Main Street/River Road (Route 3003) in both directions in Jersey Shore Borough and Porter, Piatt, and Nippenose townships.

    The week of Monday, Aug. 12, the contractor will begin installing rebar and forming the cast-in-place wingwall sections as well as continue backfilling the excavated area around the culvert. Work will take place during daylight hours.

    Long-Term Closure

    Route 44 (North Main Street) is closed in both directions at the Jersey Shore Borough / Piatt Township line, while the contractor replaces the bridge that carries North Main Street over Lawshe Run.A detour using Route 220, Route 3027 (Thomas Street), and Allegheny Street, will be in place for the duration of the bridge replacement. The detour is anticipated to be in place until Friday, September 20, 2024, weather permitting.

    HRI is the prime contractor for this $4.9 million roadway resurfacing project. Work on this project includes mill and resurface of approximately 1.0 mile of roadway on Routes 44 and 3003 including a portion of the on and off ramps of Route 220 at Main Street, guide rail upgrades, drainage upgrades, sewer line relocation, ADA curb ramps, and pavement markings. Additional work on this project includes bridge replacement, bridge deck repairs, neoprene strip seal glad replacement and epoxy overlay. These bridges span over Lawshe Run, Route 220, and the Susquehanna River. Work on this project is expected to be completed in late October 2024.

    Resurfacing on Route 220

    A roadway resurfacing project continues on Route 220 southbound in Porter, Piatt, and Pine Creek townships.

    Friday, Aug. 9 – Friday, Aug. 16

    Resurfacing Project

    The contractor will continue guide rail upgrades, shoulder backup, and crossover paving between the Main St. Jersey Shore exit ramp and the Route 44 interchange in Porter Township.

    Traffic Impacts

    Drivers traveling Route 220 southbound can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted between the Main St. Jersey Shore exit ramp and Route 44 interchange in Porter Township. Work will be performed during daylight hours.

    HRI is the prime contractor for this $3.19 million resurfacing project. Work includes milling and resurfacing of over four miles of Route 220 southbound between the Route 287 in Piatt Township and Pine Creek in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County, including resurfacing the ramps at the Route 220/Route 44 interchange (Main Street) and Thomas Street interchange (Route 3027) in Jersey Shore Borough. Additional work includes drainage upgrades, sawing and sealing of asphalt, bridge preservation on several structures, guiderail and concrete barrier upgrades, line painting, and traffic delineators. Work on this project is expected to be completed in September of 2024.

    Route 87

    A milling and resurfacing project continues on Route 87 in Montoursville Borough, Fairfield Township, Upper Fairfield Township and Plunketts Creek Township.

    The week of Monday, Aug. 12, the contractor will continue resurfacing operations along Route 87 between the Interstate 180 overpass in Montoursville Borough and north to Pier 87 Bar and Grill in Plunketts Creek Township.

    Work will be performed during both daylight and overnight hours.

    Resurfacing between Snyder’s Farm and north of Pier 87 Bar and Grill will be performed between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting.Resurfacing between Interstate 180 and Snyder’s Farm will be performed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., weather permitting.

    Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $2.6 million resurfacing project. Work includes milling and resurfacing of the roadway, base repairs, drainage work, guide rail and sign upgrades. The project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2024, weather permitting.

    Tioga County

    A pipe replacement project begins this week on Holden Brook Road (Route 4017) in Osceola Township.

    On Monday, Aug. 12 through Tuesday, Aug. 13, Holden Brook Road will be closed between Hammond Street (Route 4019) and Seeley Hill Road, while a PennDOT maintenance crew begins work on the pipe replacement project.

    On Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Friday, Aug. 16, Holden Brook Road will be closed during daylight hours between Hammond Street and Seeley Hill Road, while crews continue work on the pipe replacement. Work will take place during daylight hours.

    A detour using Hammond Street, Camp Brook Road (Route 4019), New York State Route 127, Herrington Road, Wells Road, Norway Ridge Road, Seely Hill Road, and Holden Brook Road, will be in place.

    Potter County

    PennDOT announced a bridge replacement project on Route 1010 (Genesee Mills Road) in Bingham Township which will begin on Monday, Aug. 12. Replacing the bridge deck, which carries 228 vehicles daily on average, will improve the structure's overall condition rating from fair to good.

    Beginning Monday, a detour will be in place around the bridge, which spans Mundy Creek on Genesee Mills Road. The detour will utilize Route 1010, Route 1013 (Hickox/Ulysses Road), and Route 1011 (Bingham Centre Road).

    Potter County Maintenance will complete this work, which includes replacing the bridge deck to improve safety and ride quality. PennDOT anticipates completion in early September.

    Northumberland County

    The Reading Turnpike (Route 2016) in Shamokin Township closed as of Sunday for railroad crossing project.

    The Reading Turnpike will be closed between Route 61 and Clark Road. The contractor, CTW, is installing a full-depth timber rail / highway crossing across the road.

    A detour using Route 61 and Mountain Road (Route 2020) will be in place for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be completed on Friday, Aug. 16.

    Another railroad project resumes Monday on Shamrock Road (Route 2010) in Shamokin Township. Shamrock Road will be closed between Mulberry Road and Rose Road, while the contractor, CTW, installs a custom tub-style rail / highway crossing across the road. Work had been postponed on this project due to weather.

    A detour using Bottle Road (Route 4012), Snydertown Road (Route 4012), and Short Road (Route 2007) will be in place for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be completed on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

    This work is a cooperative effort between the Shamokin Valley Rail Road and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

    Drivers should slow down and drive with caution through work zones. All work is weather dependent.
