NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Four students from Northern Cambria High School have brought home a national championship in a STEM competition.

Ace Drumm, Ava Messina, Ben Messina and Drake Weller won the Technology Student Association’s 2024 Solar Sprint Competition . The team was led by two Northern Cambria teachers — Matthew Kline, who teaches technology and engineering, and Sarah Kline, an 11th and 12th grade social studies teacher.

From June 26 to June 30, the team faced off against over 80 other teams from across the nation in Orlando, Florida.

Throughout the competition, the students raced model cars they designed and built. All of the cars had to be powered by solar cells and students were given a chance to present their theory and thoughts behind the design to the judges.

“It’s been a long process. I know the kids have been working really hard and I know the sponsors have been working really hard as well,” Northern Cambria’s Superintendent Dr. Laura Fisanick said.
