A Northfield man is now charged with fleeing from Faribault police last month.

Someone reported that Douglas Nolan Roper, 39, was trespassing at a Faribault residence on Jan. 16, according to a court complaint. Roper reportedly left before police arrived.

A police officer spotted the suspect vehicle driving without headlights on Willow Street and tried to pull it over. But the driver continued for several blocks “at a high rate of speed” and the officer lost sight of it, the complaint states.

Roper was stopped driving the same vehicle later in the month. He then claimed his vehicle had been stolen on Jan. 16.

A felony charge of fleeing police was issued Monday in Rice County District Court, along with a summons to make a first court appearance on May 16.
