2 Local Fire Departments Awarded Funding for Equipment, Training and Supplies
UTICA, N.Y. -- A few upstate fire departments in New York will soon receive a total of $665,310.24 in federal funding. The funding, which was announced by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, will support nine fire departments by providing protective gear, training and supplies for emergency personnel.

The Family Counseling Center Announces 2024 Fall Gala Honorees. [Gloversville, NY] The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County is excited to announce their 2024 Fall Gala will be held on Thursday, September 26th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lanzi’s on the Lake Restaurant and Marina in Mayfield. Tickets are $100 per person. The event will welcome community members, partners, and others in a celebration of the organization’s nearly 50 years of working with clients in the Mohawk Valley and Southern Adirondacks. All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting and expanding the programs of The Family Counseling Center.
National Guard band to perform in Capital Region
Some special performances are happening in our area starting next week. The 37 soldiers of the New York Army National Guard’s 42nd Infantry Division Band will perform six times over the next two weeks. The band traces its history back to World War I.
Rally to save Great Meadow prison set for Aug. 4
The state has announced that Great Meadow Correctional Facility will close in November. The prison employs about 650 workers. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Ann Super Stop at 11300 State Route 149 in Fort Ann.

State Police in Chestertown is seeking the public’s help in looking for a missing man who may be in the Albany area. James Carroll is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs around 230 pounds. He was last seen on Thursday wearing a navy blue baseball cap, gray short-sleeved New England Patriots T-shirt, tan cargo shorts and brown Reebok work boots.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking the public’s help finding a missing 77-year old Michael Zirpoli who was last seen in the town of Johnsburg on July 16th at 3 p.m.

State Senator Sean Ryan announced the first step of ‘The City of Good Neighborhoods’ plan to build safe and affordable rental units statewide. $40 million in the state budget was established in New York’s Vacant Rental Improvement Program to create more affordable rental properties for low-income families, notes the Senator’s Office.
