"To encourage our citizens to 'Choose the View,' it is important to continue to make Crestview as attractive as possible," Mayor J.B. Whitten said in a news release. "Our spring clean-up initiative is a great way foreveryone to contribute."

    Here is what we know.

    Program history

Since its inception three years ago, Keep Crestview Beautiful has brought together more than 150 volunteers from various nonprofits and churches to collect hundreds of tons of trash, including tires, mattresses and small appliances, at dumpster locations across the city.

Alongside responsible trash collection efforts, the initiative has assisted residents in need, beautifying cemeteries and re-roofing or painting Habitat for Humanity homes.

"Over the past three years, it has been amazing to see employees, community leadership and residents come together to keep Crestview beautiful," City Manager Tim Bolduc said in a news release. "Events like this allow us to put in the work and get some of those things done."

    What can you throw away?

During the 10-day event, Crestview residents can dispose of mattresses, tires, general household items, small appliances and electronics at dumpsters located at Old Spanish Trail Park on Stillwell Boulevard, Allen Park on McClelland Street and Wild Horse Drive between addresses 114 and 122 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Household trash, hazardous materials such as paint, fluorescent lighting, chemicals, car batteries, construction debris and yard waste are not allowed.

Crestview officials note that large appliance disposal, furniture disposal, and yard waste pick-up are part of Adams Sanitation's routine weekly garbage service.

For hazardous waste disposal, residents can use Okaloosa County's drop-off site at 1759 S. Ferdon Blvd.

Crestview still accepts volunteer applications for the annual spring cleaning. To register, or inform city officials about residents who may need assistance, contact the Crestview Police Department at 850-682-3544, ext.7.
