FORT WALTON BEACH — Officials from Fort Walton Beach are warning the public that loud noises will be heard along Santa Rosa Sound this weekend.

But don't be alarmed. It's all part of Billy Bowlegs' arrival at Fort Walton Beach.

On Friday, a mock sea battle, including simulated gunfire and explosions, between the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Krewe and members of the U.S. Army's 6th Ranger Battalion will occur between 6:30 and 7 p.m. as Captain Billy arrives at the Fort Walton Beach Landing.

The noise isn't over then. A fireworks show over Santa Rosa Sound will begin about 8:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Captain Bowlegs will announce his arrival with mock cannon fire as his ship passes beneath the Brooks Bridge as he and his krewe make their way to the Fort Walton Beach Landing. This will occur anywhere between 3:30 and 4 p.m.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank the community for their patience," Fort Walton Beach said in a release. For more information, contact the Fort Walton Beach Police Department at 850-833-9546
