Police are asking for the public’s help to locate an Athens man who has been missing now for more than a month. According to a news release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Matthew Chiu was last seen on July 15 leaving Cornerstone Church.

The victim, a homeless man from Gainesville, was walking southbound on the tracks around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, when he was struck near Dorsey Street and Industrial Boulevard, HCSO says.
Elberton Woman Seriously Injured in Hart County Crash
A two-vehicle crash in Hart County seriously injured an Elberton woman. The crash happened at about 2:43 p.m. August 19, northeast of Bowman, says state troopers. According to the preliminary crash investigation, 43-year-old Charity A. McNeil was driving a Pontiac G6 south on Eagle Grove School Road. She failed to yield after stopping at the stop sign and pulled into the path of a Ford F-350 westbound on GA 172, says Sgt. J.R. Dean of Georgia State Patrol Post 52 in Hartwell.
Scooter driver injured in Hollywood Highway crash
A man riding a scooter was injured in a crash on Hollywood Highway Friday morning, according to Habersham County Emergency Services. A release from the county says a 911 caller reported the crash around 9:05 a.m. on August 16. The caller told dispatchers a rider was down near Clover Hill Lane between Bob Patton and Hills Crossing Road outside Clarkesville.

Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run at Athens bus stop
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a deadly hit-and-run at a bus stop. Officials say on August 11, around 6:13 p.m., 45-year-old Shelby Cox was struck by a vehicle while waiting on a bus in the 2000 block of Atlanta Highway. The driver then fled the scene, according to a police department news release.

Two Athens police officers shot and killed a man Sunday after the man fired on them outside a convenience store, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI identified the suspect as 26-year-old Marquavious Sims.
