NUTLEY, NJ - Charles S. Piro, fought a courageous battle against cancer. In true Raider Nation style, "Chucky" faced his challenges with a smile and charisma. After a year and a half battle with leukemia, he died surrounded by the people he loved.
A Nutley High School class of 1993 graduate, He was a member of the 1992 State Championship football team and the wrestling team.
Many in the community remember him as the General Manager of the Franklin Steakhouse. It is no surprise that he worked in the hospitality industry. Chucky is described as " a vibrant soul, with a charismatic charm, an infectious laugh and an award-winning smile and dimples. He touched the lives of everyone he met and leaves a positive example for everyone he knew."
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Rowan University, he returned to Nutley to open Piro Painting and serve as President and Proprietor. He was in business for 10 years before moving on to the Franklin Steakhouse; a position he held until its closing. His most recent position was Project Manager at Accent Painting Group, a position he held until he fell ill.
He is predeceased by his father Charles J. Piro, his mother Patricia B. Piro (nee Baldino). He leaves behind his siblings Joe Piro, Jackie Searle and her husband Stephen Searle, Julie Piro and her fiancé Nigel Ramroop, and his best friend and brother to him and the entire Piro Family, Carmen LoRe. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew Anna and Billy Searle, his pride and joy. He will be missed by his father-in-law, Carmine Rizzi, mother-in-law, Chickie Liberti, his sister-in-law Kristina Rizzi, and brother-in-laws Vincenzo Rizzi and James Delfino. Chucky leaves behind a family of aunts, uncles and cousins that are truly saddened and heartbroken by his passing.
Chucky also leaves behind the love of his life and wife, Stephanie Piro (nee Rizzi). Stephanie, also a graduate of Nutley High School and standout athlete for the Raiders, met Chucky while working together.
In a love at first sight encounter, they made a life for themselves that was nothing short of a fairytale. The love and admiration they have for each other will last an eternity. Stephanie brought out the best in a person who already had nothing but greatness to give.
Upon hearing he news, Township of Nutley Mayor John V. Kelly III said, "He was taken from s way too soon, and loved by all, especially his family. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the entire Piro family."
Commissioner Scarpelli said, "I've known Chucky for many years. My prayers go out to the entire Piro family. Way too young. He will be missed."
Dr. Julie Glazer said, "I am so, sorry to hear this. May Chuck's memory always be a blessing."
