Airport holds youth camp, Shrine Bowl Combine
Eagle Stadium was full of action this past weekend. Airport High School held two separate events involving as many as 300 young football players. The first was a school-sponsored Friday Night Lights Youth Football Camp. Supervised by head coach and athletics director Shane Fidler, the 3-hour camp saw close to 175 participants ages five to 12 sign up to receive free training in basic fundamentals.

GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN — Adriane Wilson finished first in four of the seven women’s heavy athletic events during the 2024 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, thereby claiming the top spot overall for the competition. This is a repeat win for Wilson, who took first place at these games in 2023 and was the runner-up in 2022. CDC project to address obesity expanded to seven more counties in SC
Five years ago, Clemson Department Public Health Sciences professor Sarah Griffin co-led a team of public health researchers and Clemson Extension Rural Health and Nutrition agents to address obesity in three rural counties in South Carolina. Because the team, known as the Healthy Options Program (HOP) team, was able to assist more than 15,000 people in three counties, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has funded a five-year, $3.8 million effort to expand the program from three to ten counties.
