Columbia Metropolitan Airport resumes operations after grounding flights due to global IT outage
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Columbia Metropolitan Airport announced the ground stop put into place early Friday morning has been lifted, according to a Facebook post. The ground stop was put into place following a global IT outage which grounded flights, knocked banks offline and took media outlets off air. DownDetector, a website which tracks user-reported internet outages, said companies with reported effects on from the outage included Visa, ADT Security, Amazon, American Airlines and Delta.
Purple Martins are on Lake Murray
Each summer, the skies over Bomb Island on Lake Murray come to life as the Purple Martins arrive for their annual vacation. It is estimated that more than one million birds venture north for the summer, roosting on the island and providing spectators with a rare glimpse of one of nature’s true phenomena. This sanctuary serves as a layover for the birds on their long journey to their winter home in South America, making it the largest roosting site in North America.

Youth wresting camp starts Monday
In association with the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, the Irmo Youth Wrestling Club – KingPins will host a Youth Wrestling Camp at the Seven Oaks Gymnasium Facility from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26. The camp will run daily from 1 pm to 5 pm and is open to both boys and girls aged 4-17 of all skill levels, with beginners especially welcomed.

Enhancements to Wateree Dam Complete
Duke Energy recently completed enhancements to the Lake Wateree Dam that will improve water management and reduce the number of small to moderate flooding events on the lake. The project involved removing about 5,200 tons of concrete and installing new pneumatically controlled steel spillway gates. Those gates will provide approximately 14,000 cubic feet per second (more than 75,000 gallons per second) of additional controlled flow release capacity from Lake Wateree.

Ripple Fiber, a fiber optic internet provider based in the Southeast, has honored the recent opening of its local office in Lexington, South Carolina with a ribbon cutting event, alongside members of the Lexington Chamber.
