Free ‘Starlight Cinema’ movies coming to Chantilly this August
The dog days of August will bring free movie screenings to the Sully Historic Site (3650 Historic Sully Way) in Chantilly. The outdoor Starlight Cinema events are a part of the “Summer Entertainment Series” organized annually by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). The authority is also hosting Arts in the Parks, Evenings on the Ellipse, Franconia District Nights and other programs at various parks around the county.
New graves discovered at Centreville’s Bull Run Park
Bull Run Park in Centreville is often associated with the Civil War. However, decades earlier, the land was the site of the largest individual emancipation of enslaved people in American history, occurring decades before Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. An 18th century African American cemetery sits inside Bull Run Park near the Atlantis Water Park, the first and largest integrated pool in the 1960s. Several years after the discovery of a Black family cemetery, 11 more graves were discovered on July 11, bringing the total at the site to 102.
